Sclerotherapy is one of the best ways to treat spider veins. Spider veins are those small, yet unsightly clusters of red, blue, or purple veins that most commonly appear on the thighs, claves and ankles. A number of factors contribute to the development of spider veins, including heredity, pregnancy, weight gain and occupations that require prolonged sitting or standing.
In this simple procedure, veins are injected with a sclerosing solution which causes the vein to collapse and fade from view. A typical scerotherapy session is relatively quick, lasting anywhere from 15-45 minutes. Sclerotherapy will be performed in an outpatient setting and requires no anesthesia. The needles used during the procedure are very tiny, so pain is minimal. After each sclerotherapy session the veins will seem lighter. Two or more sessions are usually required to achieve optimal results.
All sclerotherapy sessions are performed by the physician after an initial complimentary consultation which will map out the treatment plan, which may also include laser treatment of the smallest spider veins and pigment left after sclerotherapy. |
